Management of Elephant Conflict: Film Release Function at Dharwad and Kulgi

WRCS recently conducted two media workshops at Dharwad and Kulgi for disseminating information about the project and releasing a film on human elephant conflict (HEC) mitigation techniques. The workshop at Dharwad was held at Gungarhatti Forest Training Centre on September 22, 2014. The Chief Guests were Mr. Sanjai Mohan, Addittional PCCF (Training) and Mr. Mahesh Shirur, Chief Conservator of Forests, Dharwad. Nearly 60 participants attended the function including press correspondents from Times of India and Prajavani, ACF-Dharwad, ACF-Belgaum, trainee forest guards and WRCS team. The worskhop at Kulgi was held at the Kulgi Nature Camp in Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve. The chief guests were Mr. U.D. Naik, ACF-Ganeshgudi, Mr. Balkrishna, ACF-Phansoli, Mr. D.R. Naik, ACF-Haliyal, Mr. Marigulappanavar, ACF-Yellapur, Mr. S.V. Naik, ACF-Dandeli and Mr. Balakrishna Hegde, Honorary Wildlife Warden Sirsi District. About 120 participants were present at the function including Range Forest Officers from Yellapur, Haliyal and Dandeli Divisions, press correspondents from The Hindu, Vijayvani, Prajavani, Udayvani, ETV and many other news agencies, Ms. Neeti Mahesh from Coorg Wildlife Society, Mr. Shivasubramaniam from WWF-India, Mr. Abhishek from Keystone foundation, Mr. Lingaraj, Mr. Shivaji and Mr. Amrut from Pariyavarni Group in Belgaum, Mr. Imran Patel from Sirsi Forestry College and many EDC presidents and farmers from surrounding areas. At both the fucntions Dr. Prachi Mehta introduced the audience to the project and its objectives and gave a summary of the project activities and presented the results of the project. Mr. Peeysuh Sekhsaria was publicity advisor and helped to organize the program. At both venues a film release function was held for releasing the film made by WRCS on HEC mitigation techniques.
