Opportunity for Project Manager on Project Management of Human-Elephant Conflict in Madhya Pradesh 

Introduction

WRCS has been working on mitigation of human elephant conflict (HEC) in North Karnataka landscape by capacity building of the farmer community and multi- stakeholder engagement. Further information on the ongoing project is available at https://www.wrcsindia.org/human-elephant-interactions

Through this call, we are inviting applications for three positions on an HEC management project in Sanjay-Dubri and Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserves in Madhya Pradesh. We request the applicants to read the TOR carefully before applying. Applicants should apply for one position only. All positions are full time engagements and are till May 2025. Only those who have completed their degrees should apply. Those looking for short-term project work, dissertation, internship, or pursuing the degree, or in the final stage of the degree (PhD, M.S) are requested to excuse this opportunity.

Positions: 1 Project Manager

Desired Qualification
Master’s degree in Wildlife Biology/Ecology with minimum eight years of field experience of working on human-elephant conflict in India.

Job description
• Will be based at our Pune office with frequent visits to the project site.
• Assist in overall implementation and management of the project.
• Will be required to stay in the field sites with the field team, visit the project sites, review the work, meet with the local communities, local forest officers and strengthen the implementation of project activities.
• Interact with the field team on a daily basis, monitor the work by the team, assist the team in planning their work, review their outputs
• Prepare progress reports, annual reports, compile the data, analyze the data, prepare the maps, and presentations for the meetings as required.

Essential
• Excellent knowledge of the principles of mammalian ecology and habitat ecology, especially about elephants. Knowledge of HEC wildlife management principles, and experience of managing HEC is required. Should have good understanding of wildlife management.
• The project manager should have willingness and aptitude for implementing community-based solutions and should be able to guide the field teams with innovative ideas. The project manager will be required to be updated on latest conservation issues on elephants, published research on elephants, and should be able
to network with different agencies and individuals for implementing project objectives.
• The project manager should have the skills to hold community consultations, carry out PRA, demonstration workshops for local field staff and local communities.
• Ability to interact and work closely with government officers.
• Excellent command over written and spoken English and Hindi.
• Excellent team management skills. Should have good understanding of the issues, plan daily and weekly schedules, should have capacity to lead a team and achieve project targets.
• Knowledge of GIS is essential.
• The project manager will need to travel within the project area. 2-wheeler and 4- wheeler driving license is preferable.
• Should be physically fit and willing to travel in the field for long duration.
• Between 28 to 37 years of age.

Remuneration
Remuneration for the Project Manager will be based on the applicant’s qualification and
experience.
