Research Biologist Position for Population Estimation of the Forest Owlet in Central India  

About the Project

For more than a decade, Wildlife Research and Conservation Society (www.wrcsindia.org) has been carrying out ecological research on the Forest Owlet and other sympatric owls in Central India. Our research has yielded useful insights into the distribution, occupancy, habitat preference, demography, breeding foraging, and behavior of the Forest Owlet and other sympatric owls in the landscape. 

 

No. of Positions: 2

This is a field-based project and will involve working in rugged hilly terrain. The duration of the Project is for two years.

Eligibility to Apply:

We urge the applicants to consider the following criteria before sending in their application.

a) We are seeking applications from post-graduates who have completed their M.Sc. degree in Wildlife Science, Ecology and similar subjects. This opportunity is not suitable for those pursuing their degree, seeking internship or short-term work.  

b) The candidate should be young and physically very fit to be able to work in rugged terrain for long hours.

c) Should be willing to commit to the entire duration of the project. 

d) Should have previous experience of carrying out field work on wildlife projects.

e) Capacity for scientific writing, statistical analysis, GIS and bird study methods, 

f) Command over spoken and written English, Marathi and Hindi. 

g) Holder of Permanent Driving License for 4-wheeler and 2-Wheeler and experience of driving on forest roads, 

h) Willing to walk for 10 to15 km daily in rugged terrain, 

i) Willing to stay in basic field accommodation, which may not have electricity, running water or internet. Ready to rough it out in the field and stay in field staff camps if required.

Remuneration: Remuneration will be commensurate with qualification and experience of the applicant.
